Launch Tree is a product you have probably heard about, as it's one of the current big launches. You may even be sick of getting e-mails about it in your Inbox.
It's rather a pity that people get into such a frenzy about sellinga product such as this. If that's all you care about, it can stop you from reaching a real understanding of how the ideas behind Launch Tree can enable you to build your marketing business far beyond your original expectations.
The clue is in the title. Forget about "Launch" and concentrate on "tree". This gives the secret clue as to what is the root from which your business grows. And this root is the psychology of the customer.
- The customer comes first. How many of us put the productfirst? You think "I must develop a product". You spend hours, days, or weeks constructing it, and it could be the most wonderful product in the world. But without an understanding of what your customer wants, you don't have a business.
- Note - it's about what the customer wants, not what the customer needs. Launch Tree gives the example of two customers going into an airport briefcase store, where there is only one sales assistant. Customer A is carrying an old, worn-out, old-fashioned briefcase. Customer B is carrying a smart, new-looking briefcase, only a few weeks short of the latest model. Which should the assistant attend to first? The answer is Customer B. He obviously cares about having a smart fashionable briefcase, so will be interested in the latest model. Customer A may needa new briefcase, but almost certainly doesn't wantone. To him a briefcase is just a container to carry his files and he doesn't care what it looks like.
- Know one of the most important things about the psychology of the customer? Customers hate to feel they are being "sold" to. That is, if you're trying to sell the product to the customer, you'll probably get a No. So make sure customers feel that theyare making the decision to buy. (This means getting rid of your "Buy Now" buttons!) That way they will be happy with their purchase and will be in the mood to make additional purchases that enhance the value of their initial purchase. And for you the value of the transaction is hugely multiplied. Understanding how to do this is one of the biggest secrets of Launch Tree.
Of course there's nothing new about the idea of getting inside your customer's mind. But it's amazing how much we still concentrate on selling the product, rather than satisfying the customer. What the Launch Tree people are pointing out, is that this principle is the rootof your business, from which everything else grows. And their business has grown beyond all expectation!
